How To Change Over To A New Baby Formula

Your baby's feeding schedule and the food are both a matter of concern for you as a mom. After the baby is few months old, along with breast feeding, you may have introduced external feeds such as cow's milk, baby formula, fruits and others. It takes some time for the baby to adjust to the new food items. In such cases when you plan to change the formula, especially when the baby is still small and the food item is entirely new, you need to look into certain things. Of course it is absolutely safe to introduce new feeds but certain observations are always better to be considered.

For very small babies say around 4 to 6 months old, do not switch food items frequently. Also when changing the food item, do not switch the category; for example if you are changing a fruit, switch on to other fruit than to some cereal.

Observe your baby from day one. Check out his health and tendencies of the digestive system. Some babies have colic problems while some may have a constipation tendency. Change the food keeping all this in mind.

Along with health, the mood of the kid is important. Some kids are food lovers and may adapt to the change gracefully. Some of them just do not like to adjust. So try with a little bit of new stuff rather than a total new feed. If the baby likes it, you may introduce it, if not, try after a few weeks with some different flavor or recipe.

If you have kept the same formula for a long time, do not expect the baby to welcome the change immediately. Hence from the initial age keep the habit of introducing something new in the food items. This makes the baby used to having varied tastes.

Do not forget to consult the doctor if you feel the change will not be suitable for the kid or even if you feel some unrelated problems persist for a longer time.
