How To Recover From A Cesarean Delivery

If you have a cesarean delivery then you need to take care of yourself more. There are women who prefer a C-section. But before going for C- section, you must know about the recovery from cesarean delivery. In this guide, I am going to tell you about the recovery from caesarean delivery.

In the hospital – Immediately after your C-section, you are taken to recovery room for about an hour. However, you are watched for any signs of problems, such as bleeding or pain. At the same time, your baby may go to the nursery to be weighed and evaluated, but he is usually returned to you in the recovery room. It’s normal to bleed vaginally after a caesarean. Cramping and contractions of your uterus are normal and desirable.

When you go home – When you go home from the hospital, you will be eating, drinking and walking. Your incision is likely to be sore. Most women will still need to take mild pain medication after they go home. Your doctor will recommend that you do not drive if you are taking pain medicine or have other problems, such as anemia.

Activities after a C-section – It’s ok to increase your activity, but try not to be in too big a hurry. Friends and family are normally more than happy to help out; let them. It is wise to plan your activities to save your energy to take care of yourself and your baby. During the first few weeks, don’t lift anything heavier than your baby. Vacuuming probably is not going to be harmful, but it may cause you pain because of stretching and pulling.

Precautions after a C-section – Most doctors suggest that you don’t have sexual relations until after your 6-week postpartum visit. Resuming relations too soon can be harmful because of the risk of possible infection or increased bleeding and can actually delay your recovery.

Getting back on your feet – The rate of recovery is different for every woman. Usually, you can return to your normal activities after your 6 week check up if you are not having problems. Be prepare to ease back into things slowly, and don’t expect to pick up immediately where you left off.

Taking care of your baby - Most new parents feel overwhelmed and inadequate with their new responsibility. Be assured that you will do great, and will learn as you go. There are many ways to get help and advice from friends, family, your pediatrician’s office and even people you meet in the hospital.
