How To Teach Toddlers To Clean Up Their Play Room

Toddlers love to play both with their toys, as well as with everything they come across in the house. However as they go on exploring the world around them, they get tired with whatever they are doing and choose another pastime. As a result after a short time your house and the playroom looks terrible. As they are just toddlers, its of no use scolding time and again. However, running after them and clearing their toys can exhaust you. So what do you do with the little devil? How do you induce the habits of tidiness and neatness in them? The early you start, the better it is, however there are certain ways of doing this, here is how you go about it-

The first thing to do is make some space in the nursery for stacking the toys. These spaces should be at reachable heights for the kids. Also get some attractive bins and baskets if possible so that they are happy to stack the things.

Start the activity of cleaning up as fun and not as a task. Also do not assign it to the kid alone. The work should be done by a team of two- you and your kid. This team spirit makes them happy that their mom is with them to complete their tasks.

Carry out the activity as a fun activity by setting a bell or setting a time limit to see who does it first and so on. This makes them more excited to be first in cleaning up. You may also play nursery rhymes in the background to make the atmosphere more cheerful.

Do not induce the habit of offering bribe. It will set the same pattern ahead and the kid won't listen in the future where other tasks are concerned without any 'bribe'.

Apart from cleaning, also teach them the way to play. It is at this age that they should learn some things. Teach them to play a game with continuity and then start with a new one. If this habit is developed, they learn the qualities of patience and perseverance.
