How To Trim A Baby’s Hair

Babies born with hair often lose all of it during the first six months, but there’s nothing to worry about, as it grows back. No matter how bald your baby is at birth, eventually you’ll find yourself washing banana out of her hair after every meal. There are numerous things that you need to take care of when you are trimming your baby’s hair. In this guide, I am going to tell you how you trim your baby’s hair.

Firstly, choose the right time of the day when your baby is generally in good spirits and neither hungry nor tired. Whether this is the first thing in the morning or later in the day, make sure you avoid giving a hair cut when your baby is fussy.

Place her in a high chair, or any chair with a restraining belt and buckle her in. Pretend you are a real hairdresser and start chat her up as soon as she’s seated. It doesn’t matter what you say, just be upbeat and reassuring. If you don’t have a seat, have a friend or family member hold your child in her lap. You may also consider toys or a DVD to distract him during the haircut.

Spray the water gently on her hair. If your child doesn’t enjoy the spraying then simply wet the comb under a faucet or spray the comb with a water bottle.

Comb the hair to remove any tangles. Pull the hair gently down and snip just below your fingers in one cut. Release the hair and let it spring back into place. If it’s curly hair, pull it down as far as it will go before trimming to avoid cutting it too short. Continue this process with the next section of the hair.

Any time your baby may get fussy so hand her a new distractions and don’t stop talking. Talk to the child to provide gentle encouragement and positive reinforcement during the haircut.

If the baby is reluctant to have her hair spritzed and trimmed, sprit and snip your own to demonstrate that it doesn’t hurt. If she is fussy because the pieces of hair falling on her, brush it off with a soft, clean brush. A large makeup brush works well for this. Cutting the hair of your baby can be made a fun activity by using some creativity and finesse.
