Tips For Buying Nursing Pads

When a newborn baby comes in our lives then there are a number of things you need to buy for the baby. At that time, mothers forget their needs and requirements. In starting, every mother faces this situation when milk leaks out from the breast. Because, in the beginning milk production is very high. This can be very embarrassing if you are outside. So at such times, you need something which can absorb the excess milk . Nursing pads are the best solution in such situations. Nursing pads can save breastfeeding mothers from public embarrassment by absorbing the excess milk . Selecting the type of pad to use is only half the battle. In this guide, I am going to give some useful tips for buying nursing pads.

When buying nursing pads, the first thing to consider is the type of the nursing pad. There are two types of nursing pads, one is disposable and other is washable. This is a personal choice and often rests on which is more comfortable for you and your schedule. Some mothers often choose to use both.

If you want a long term solution then it's better to choose washable nursing pads. Though you must continuously wash them in order to always have clean and dry pads, you surely get the longer life span compared to disposable nursing pads. If you don’t have the time to wash and dry the nursing pads, then disposable pads would be better.

If you are going to choose washable nursing pads then check carefully that the pads are made from 100% cotton for maximum airflow to nipples and breasts. Some nursing pad brands offer a lace or decorated overlay which is fine if the rest of the pad is made up of cotton.

Remember one thing; avoid liquid fabric softener when using washable nursing pads, as this may destroy or disrupt the pad’s absorbency. Using fabric softener sheets are much better for keeping the pad intact and softening the texture.

Disposable pads are more convenient and give you flexibility when it comes to your schedule. Buy disposable pads made of 100% cotton or all paper. Lost pads with plastic lining restrict the airflow to the breast and nipple area and can be a reason of infection. Nursing pads that have restricted airflow can prevent the healing of red and sore nipples or worsen infection.

Disposable pads are best when you travel or embark on a long journey with your baby. These pads are great when you don’t have a place to wash reusable pads. You can simply discard them and use a new one as and when needed.

Select disposable pads with glue on the back for added support. This glue firmly attaches the pad to your bra. There's nothing more embarrassing than having your nursing pad fall out of your bra in public or having to constantly adjust the pads. So check carefully before buying.

Always make sure they are purified and medical-grade so as not to irritate you or your baby.
