Tips For Pregnancy Lifestyle

Whereas most of your pregnancy lifestyle habits used to affect only your body, many now have the potential of affecting your baby’s baby too. Old habits may now be bad habits, ones you’d like to break in a hurry. In this guide, I am going to give you some strategies that can help.

 
Eliminate temptation – That means keeping everything that shouldn’t have out of sight. No wine in the fridge; no liquor on the top of bar. No cakes mixes in the kitchen cupboard; no white bread in the bread box.
 
Stock up on substitutes – Sparkling cider in your wineglass at dinner, a Mock Strawberry Daiquiri at cocktail time. Fruit sweetened cookies and cakes in the cupboard; delicious whole-grain breads and muffins in the freezer.
 
Use cues – One of the major obstacles to changing habits is forgetting what your goals are; they can easily slip from your mind when temptation is near. So tape pictures of babies on the refrigerator, inside kitchen cupboards, on the outside of the liquor cabinet.
 
Forgive yourself – If you slip up and eat something that’s less than good for your baby, or even if you have a glass of wine or beer, don’t throw in the towel and go back to your old ways. Get right back on the healthy-living wagon. Try to analyze what it was that caused you to fall off, and try to avoid such situations for the duration.
 
Rely on relaxation – it’s often tension that makes us susceptible to forgetting our good intentions, so take spare moments during the day to do relaxation exercise.
 
Learn to say no – To that second cup of coffee, that social cigarette, that glass of bubbly being passed your way. Be polite but firm.
 
Enlist an ally – your husband is the most logical one, but it can also be a friend at work, a sister or someone else you spend a lot of time with. Your ally should be willing to stick to the rules with you when you’re together; this will help strengthen your resolve and remove a good deal of temptation.
 
If you can’t do it alone, get help – some habits are harder to break than others. If you are having difficulty kicking a potentially dangerous habit, whether it’s smoking, drinking or taking drugs, them talk to your practitioner or seek other professional help.
