Top Ten Tips To Soothe A Crying Baby

It is only the parents who can imagine the strain that goes in soothing the crying kid. Infants have no particular time to start with this crying job, neither do they need any particular reason for it. However between the lines, they do have some reason for crying. It may be a pain, hunger, a wet diaper or just a passtime for them. Since they cannot convey their feelings through words, they just yell out. It is upto the parent to sit and guess what the reason can be. And worst of all, it could be any time of day or night! To top this all, you are lucky if your baby is the quieter type. If she is fussy and short tempered then its a tough time for the family.

So next time when the baby lets out her emotions, check out the following things. It has to be one of the ten reasons. If it is the eleventh reason that you have discovered, add a comment to this article.

Your baby could be hungry. Check out the feeding time and if she has had her tummy full. Many a times, very small babies may urinate or pass stools just after feeding and they get hungry soon. However if she is not willing to take in food, it means she is not hungry. Do not feed her forcefully.

Did the kid have a hectic day or was her sleep disturbed? Babies cannot tell you they are tired or they did not sleep well. You have to judge it. In case of 4 months and older kids, their activity and movements stretch them out. Give her a gentle body and head massage.

Change in weather could be another reason. Small babies are much more sensitive to it. Try changing her outfit or take her out in the lawn if it is getting hot. A light breeze can work wonders in some cases. Sometimes, the cooler or the lights in the room could also be interfering.

A wet diaper could be a reason for yelling too. Its more possible in winters when you have to change the diapers more frequently. Similarly a diaper rash could be another reason.

Your baby sometimes wakes up suddenly from her sleep and starts crying. It may be a terrifying dream. Sometimes shadows or insecure feelings may scare her. If she is crying, hold her close, talk to her, make an eye conatct to let her know you are there. She understands your message very well.

Infant colic is another common reason. These babies normally cry after feeds/in late evenings or may be throughout the night. There are home remedies like placing the baby in a comfortable position which gives her relief from the pain.

The baby may just be bored for no reason at all. After all just imagine, she has to lie down in one position the whole day and can communciate only through sounds or smile or her crying. She may select the last option to convey her boredom. In that case chat with her. Play with her or take her for a round. She needs to be entertained.

Your baby may be ill and hence restless. It may be the beginning of cold, fever or tummy disorder. Check out for the symptoms and try to soothe her. In this case it will take a lot of time but you need to have the patience and understand her. Sometimes it may also be just a burp which she needs to let out.

Your baby might be irritated or annoyed with something which even she does not understand. In that case rock her or sing her a lullaby. Talk to her, try to get her out of that irritating mood. It is a skill, but you have no choice but to give it a try.

Teething babies and those learning to walk are two types that get quickly irritated. In the former case you can try handing over a teether to make her soothe her gums. In the latter she just wants to walk again and again and is tired too. You have to manage the balance and soothe her and get her to sleep which is very essential for her.
