Top Tips On Infant Ear Piercing

Baby's ear piercing is a part of process or faith in many religions. The practice is carried out in very small infants possibly at the age of a month or before they complete one year. Though it seems that it could be very painful for the baby, its just like a shot of a vaccine, and the pain is temporary. Nowadays with the piercing machine, the duration of piercing has become short and hence less painful. Parents have to be careful during the process and need to make sure that the person doing this is skilled, experienced and handles it carefully. There are some other things that you will need to watch out for. Though they are minor factors, they are equally important.

As stated above, choose a goldsmith or a professional who is experienced in baby ear piercing, may be your family has a traditional one too! Speak to him well in advance and fix up a day when both he and you are at leisure. Though the task is small, it requires careful handling for better and safer results. Also finalize the ear studs in advance.

Select the time which you feel is most suitable for the kid. Carry her over when she is fed, has had her nap and done with other routines. May be you could also arrange for the person to come over to your place which is the best option.

The actual moment of piercing is the one when you need to be extra careful. Hold the baby carefully as she is likely to resist or give a jerk. If you are the type that is scared of all this, perhaps you may call someone elder and experienced who can handle this. When the piercing is done, it may turn out to be painful at that moment and the baby is expected to resist much more for the other ear. In such cases an experienced craftsman does his job perfectly.

Many a times, medication is not necessary as the pain subsides gradually. However you may consult you doctor if the pain remains and you feel that the baby is not comfortable. The doctor may or may not advise a pain killer.

If your child is fussy, the process may take some time for the other ear. Do not coax such fussy kids as they start up with tantrums making the process much more difficult.

It is advisable not choose anything but pure gold. It is the safest for those tiny ears and delicate skin. Also select tiny delicate studs which will not be too heavy for the ear lobe. Avoid earrings of the type that the baby can pull or that may get stuck in other objects such as blankets or clothing.

Children have a habit of pulling/scratching/tugging at their ears when they are irritated. Hence initially for a few days, watch out for these habits and make sure that the studs are not pulled at rapidly. Gradually as the pain subsides within few days, the baby gets used to the studs.

You also need to watch out for any allergy or rash in the immediate few days after the ear piercing. Call up your doctor if there is any such thing and you may have to get those studs removed for some time. However it does not happen in case of gold studs.
